Early signing

The Sugar Bear basketball team has added a new player for next season — freshman guard Olivia McWilliams, who was signed Nov. 13. McWilliams is a 5’7” guard from eStem Public Charter School in Little Rock. She made the 3A All-State team and All-State tournament team last year. She was also an Arkansas Mavericks member. She averaged 17 points per game last season as well as 5.6 rebounds per game, 5.4 assists per game and 3.7 steals per game. She scored 18 points in one quarter during a conference tournament game.

All-Decade team

Seven former UCA Bears football players made the Southland Conference 2000s All-Decade football team. Members were announced Wednesday. Among these members include tight end Marquez Branson, quarterback Nathan Brown, defensive end Larry Hart, runningback Brent Grimes, offensive lineman Jeremy Ford, offensive lineman Lane Friewald and defensive back Pierl Feazell. Among these players, Brown has earned the most awards since playing for UCA. He was 2007 Southland Conference Player of the Year and 2009 Player of the Year. Brown was named a Payton Award finalist in 2008 and led the Conference in passing and total offense in 2007. There are a total of 106 former athletes that make up the 2000s Southland Conference All-Decade team from 10 different universities.

Men’s soccer honors

Although the season has ended for the men’s soccer program at UCA, four players have received Missouri Valley Conference honors for their effort on the field. Junior midfielder Logan Miller, junior defender Matt Taphorn and senior forward Taylor Hart were named to the All-MVC second team. Hart made his second appearance on the team. Freshman midfielder Wes Carson was named to the All-MVC freshman team. Miller led the team with 15 points by scoring five goals and having five assists. Taphorn helped the UCA soccer team hold opponents to 13.7 shots per game and was second on the team with 1,383 minutes played. Hart scored four goals and gathered eight total points this season. Carson scored seven goals, which tied him for second in the Missouri Valley Conference, and assisted one goal.
