Track excels in supermeet at UAB

UCA’s men’s track team earned eight Top 10 finishes, while the women’s team earned five Jan. 23 at the UAB Vulcan Invite at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

Freshman Julien Jeandree finished fourth in the mile run with a time of 4 minutes and 18.59 seconds.

Senior Jonathan Burgess took fourth place in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:32.23 and senior Connor Ryan finished ninth (8:49.03).

Freshman Josh Quiroga finished sixth in the 800-meter with a time of 1:55.46, and senior Chance Tanner finished fifth in the 400-meter (48.83).

“Overall, as a team I think we did great,” Tanner said. “Of course there’s alway room for improvement.”

Junior Jahleel Lilly finished sixth in the long jump (6.84 meters), while junior Anthony Farris-King finished seventh (6.79 meters).

UCA finished third in the 4×400 with a time of 3:19.89.

For the women, sophomore Madison Sewell finished eighth in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 10:47.88.

Jean-Neka Black finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.00 seconds. Junior Aysia Oliver was sixth in the triple jump (11.59 meters) and junior Jasmine Campbell finished sixth in the long jump (5.41 meters).

UCA’s 4×400 relay team finished seventh with a time of 4:00.86.

The teams competed in the UAB Green and Gold Invite on Jan. 24, also at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena. There, the men’s team earned three first place victories and finished third overall, while the women’s team finished 13th overall.

Freshman Eric Moore won the high jump with a 2.05-meter leap, and Quiroga won the mile run with a time of 4:19.67. Lilly placed first in the triple jump with a 14.60-meter jump.

UCA’s 4×400 relay team finished second with a time of 3:20.84.

Burgess finished second in the 5,000-meter (15:22.00).

Freshman Jeremiah Watson finished fifth in the 400 meter (50.18), while senior Dustie Smith finished seventh (50.86).

Freshman Noah Freeman finished sixth in the 3,000-meter with a time of 9:25.61, and sophomore James Lassiter finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.49).

Lilly also placed third in the high jump (1.90 meters), and junior Anthony Farris-King tied at fourth in the triple jump (14.12 meters). Tanner finished eighth in the 200-meter (22.38).

For the women’s team, junior Sophie Clauss finished fifth in the 3,000-meter (11:25.95) and senior Tyaniah Cash finished sixth in the 60-meter (7.80).

UCA’s 4×400 relay team finished fifth with a time of 3:59.75.

Sophomore Samantha Gibson finished fourth in the high jump with a 1.59-meter leap, while sophomore Hadley Swanson tied for seventh with a 1.54-meter leap.

UCA’s next meet will be Friday, Jan. 30 at Arkansas State University.
