UCA Hires New Library Director

UCA recently hired Dean Covington as the new director of Torreyson Library.

Covington was born in Fort Worth. He grew up in Tennessee and has been in Arkansas for 28 years.

Before taking this job position, he was the library director at Lyon College.

“It is a great honor. I’ve known library faculty at Torreyson Library for many years and I am truly honored to have been chosen for this position. I have great respect for UCA. My daughter attended UCA softball camps and my son band camp for several years, so I am very familiar with UCA and Conway,” Covington said.

“I believe the library is filled with great people to work with and I look forward to getting to know all of them and working with UCA students, faculty and administrators,” he said.

Assistant Director of Torreyson Library Tina Murdock said the library director oversees all operations of the library, including budget, scheduling, hours of operation, policies and procedures and building management.

She said he does not fulfill all of those duties by himself. He supervises the faculty and staff and he sets the direction for future development of library collections and services.

Murdock said a campus-wide committee is appointed to receive and review applications and evaluate candidates.

“I am very excited to have Dean here and to be able to work with him to plan for the future of Torreyson library. We have a fine facility and an excellent team here, and Dean brings a wealth of experience and insight to UCA. I’m certain he will be exactly the leader the library needs for the days ahead,” Murdock said.
