Frisbee Team is Seeking Players

Want to join a tournament-winning team at UCA? You don’t have to be able to slam-dunk a basketball, tackle a 200-pound running back or spike a volleyball, but it might be helpful if you and your dog have played with a Frisbee.

Abduction, the RSO comprised of the UCA’s men’s and women’s Ultimate Frisbee teams, is making a name for itself in matches around the country.

The men’s team went undefeated in the Sept. 22-23 Rookie Ride Tournament in Tulsa, Okla., and the women’s team recently took second place in the Oct. 6-7 Just Plain Nasty Tournament in Norman, Okla.

The teams have managed to beat competitors with much larger rosters. In the final game of the Rookie Ride Tournament, there were only nine Abduction players rotating for the mandatory seven on the field during the game against Oklahoma University, who had over 20 players. Abduction won 12-10 against Oklahoma University.

Sophomore David Irico reflected that when he first stepped on the field as the new guy, his teammates were “open, welcoming and every person on team [was]as nice as they [could]be.”

Senior Jarrod Hockett, the team’s president, said that playing Ultimate Frisbee is a unique opportunity for students.

“If you’re looking for an outlet for competition and to socialize, this is the place to do it. There could not be a better college experience,” Hockett said.

Both the men’s and women’s teams practice together at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The team’s next challenge will be the Harvest Moon Tournament in Fayetteville, which will take place during the weekend of fall break.

For more information on joining the team, contact Jarrod Hockett by email at [email protected] or by phone at 501-944-6170.
