Deadline Nears for Film Entries

Want to show off that short film you’ve been working on but don’t know where to start?

Tomorrow is the deadline for submissions to the 4th Annual Conway Film Festival and it is not just for film students.

UCA film fraternity Psi Delta Kappa is working with Conway ArtsFest to host the festival again this year, and they are asking filmmakers from around the state to participate.

“Primarily we get all our submissions from film students,” Psi Delta Kappa President Evan Price said, “but there are submissions coming from other areas.”

The festival is accepting films from any Arkansas residents, provided that the submitted works were produced no earlier than 2011. The submission fee is $15 for non-students and $10 for students.

Films must fall into one of three categories: narrative short, documentary or music video/commercial/experimental. Lengths of narrative shorts and documentaries must be 30 minutes or less. Music videos, commercials and experimental films must be seven minutes or less.

The festival takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 28 and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Conway District Court Building, which located at 810 Parkway St. Awards will be given on the second day of the festival after the screenings are done.

“There will be an announcement of outstanding achievement for some films,” Price said, “…[but]the awards depend on what types of films are submitted.”

In the past, films have received awards like overall creative film, overall best film, best music video, best writing, and best directing. However, often there are little or no music videos, experimental films, and documentaries, so there are not always awards in these categories.

“Narrative shorts is always one of the favorites,” Price said, “but we do get a few documentaries and music videos.”

Price said that the planning of the festival is going well this year, and that there are high hopes for another big turnout.

“Even when we don’t plan for a large amount of people to show, we usually get full quickly,” Price said.

Entries for the film festival should be mailed to:
