Following the Bears 41-24 loss to the No. 8 Southeastern Louisiana University Lions, UCA looks to start its conference winning streak against a tough test in the Northwestern State University Demonsfor the Bears Homecoming game at 6 p.m. Oct. 25.
UCA leads the all-time series with a 4-3 record and will look to limit its turnovers, as it proved to be a problem last Saturday.
NSU beat the Bears 31-28 in Natchitoches, Louisiana last season.
Looking at both team’s schedules, the Demons have played two opponents that UCA has faced this season.
NSU opened its season at home with a 34-27 loss against the Missouri State Bears and a week six 30-22 loss to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.
The Bears lost to Missouri State at home on a last second field goal to give Missouri State a 33-31 win.
This is shaping up to be a huge game for both teams which have their eyes set on the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs.
In order to qualify for the playoffs, teams have to win seven games. UCA’s overall record sits at 4-4 and 3-1 in the Southland Conference, while the Demons are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the SLC.
If the Bears were to lose this game, they would have to win the remaining three games with hopes of making the playoffs. The Demons have four games left after this weekend’s game.
On the season, NSU has given up a couple more points on average than it has scored, with 30.9 points per game scored and allowing 32.4.
Another interesting stat: UCA has won its last 11 Homecoming games, dating back to a loss to Division II opponent North Alabama.
