Based on the manga series of the same name, Yona of the Dawn was first adapted as a television series on October 7, 2014. Since that time, series fans have waited patiently for word on the release of season two. Read on for the latest updates on when this may happen.
Yona of the Dawn Plot Line
Set in a fictional land that shares a variety of attributes with China, Japan, and Korea, the show follows the life of Yona, who is the only princess of the Kingdom of Kouka.
Yona begins the series living as a carefree princess who is unaware of the outside world thanks to her father, the King Kouka, and her childhood friend and bodyguard, Hak.
Things get interesting on Yona’s 16th birthday when her love-interest Su-Won makes an appearance. When she goes to her father to profess her love for Su-Won, instead she finds Su-Won murdering the King in an effort to take the throne. During Su-Won’s seizure of the palace, Hak saves Yona from certain death, escaping to his birthplace, the Village of Wind.
Once there, Hak’s grandfather Son Mundok suggests the duo find a priest by the name of Ik-Su. The priest is able to tell them the story of the first king of Kouka, Hiryuu, and the Four Dragon Warriors who are all able to bring the kingdom together. As a result, the pair decide to go on a journey with Ik-Su’s assistant Yun to find the descendants of the Four Dragon Warriors so that together, they may save the kingdom and bring it together once again.

At her request, Hak teaches her the skill of archery, which she is able to use to her advantage during a battle later on.
She is thought to be the reincarnation of the first king of Kouka, Hiryuu, because they both have red hair. Legend states that when the blood of the four legendary dragons will react when they see her and they will be able to hear the voices of the four original dragons stating their oath to protect Hiryuu.

When Will Season Two Be Released?
Consisting of a total of 24 episodes, season one of Yona of the Dawn premiered in 2014, with the finale happening on March 24, 2015. Since that time, three OVA special episodes have been released, with the last appearing on December 20, 2016. Since that time, there has been no official word concerning any more release dates for the show.
Meanwhile, in April of 2016, the Kumamoto earthquakes rocked Japan, killing at least 50 people and injuring 3,000 more. As a result, creator of the manga series Mizuho Kusanagi announced that despite being uninjured from the earthquakes, there would be a setback to the continuation of her work. She has since completely recovered and published a number of new volumes, offering more than enough material for the creation of new seasons of the show.
In addition, anime shows operate differently from shows overseas in that several years can pass in between the release of seasons. For Yona of the Dawn this means that producers have until the end of 2020 before fans should begin to worry about the possibility of a season two.
There is still a good chance the show will be renewed. If that happens, the release date is expected to come in either 2020 or 2021.
For now, season one of the show is available for viewing, dubbed in English, on Funimation.
