Are you a fan of anime? Well, I sure am! I was introduced to my very first anime at ten years old, and was hooked ever since! I watched a variety of different anime shows such as One Piece, Naruto, and my favorite underrated anime show Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi. If you are a huge anime fan, then I am pretty sure you heard of Log Horizon, an anime about video games, drama, and survival to the fittest.
There has been a lot of talk about a season 3 coming out. Some sources say that season 3 is confirmed, while other sources say that there hasn’t been an official announcement yet. In this article, I am going to tell you the truth about season 3, and why I think fans need to wait a while before the official season 3 of Log Horizon comes out.
What is the plot of Log Horizon?
Log Horizon is an anime about a college engineer student named Shiroe who ends up trapped in a video game with thousands of other people. Shiroe and his friends Akatsuki and Naotsugu are stuck in the smash-hit game Elder Tale where they have to fight other players and even monsters in order to keep living. The three friends meet during the game, and they team up together to try to solve a variety of complex puzzles, and escape the game to go back to earth. Even though Shiroe is a socially awkward college student, he leads the group, and he also improves his flaws and weaknesses.
The show is a little similar to No Game No Life and Btoom.
History of the Log Horizon
Log Horizon, also known as ログ・ホライズン in Japanese, is a novel series that was created by Mamare Touno and drawn by Kazuhiro Hara. At first, they published the novel online on the website called Shōsetsuka ni Narō. As the story grew in popularity, it became acquired by Enterbrain and started being sold in Japan in 2011. In 2015, Yen Press started publishing the book in English. This was when Log Horizon started to really get attention.
The novel turned into four manga adaptions. The first three telling the story from the supporting character point of view, and one telling the main story from the protagonist’s point of view. The anime adaptation started being aired on NHK Educational TV on October 5, 2013 and ended in late March of 2014.
When will season come out?
Unfortunately, on April 27, 2016, it was reported that the writer of the original novel was convicted of tax evasion. He and his company had to pay some pretty big fines, and the writer also had to serve ten months in jail. We don’t know if this scam will affect the anime series, but it delayed the release of the volume ten version. Volume ten eventually came out in September of 2015, but the release for volume eleven was also slightly delayed. Some people think it is because production companies don’t want to deal with Mamare after his conviction.
So, does this mean we will never see a season 3 of this amazing anime show?
Sadly, there haven’t been any new announcements from the studios regarding season 3 of Log Horizon, so we will have to see what happens. But the good news is that Log Horizon has a global fanbase, so making a season 3 will be a great money-making opportunity, increasing the chances of a season 3 being made. There aren’t any guarantees that a season 3 will be made since the studio working with Log Horizon has a past of spreading rumors.
Given that the other two previous seasons were released in October, people say that the new season will also be released in October. Since the studio has been silent about a new release, don’t expect to see season 3 arrive this year. We might just see season 3 next year in 2020. There have been rumors spreading around that the company is withholding the release of Log Horizon so that it can build press attention and hype up the fans. This could be true, or a lie, but at the end of the day we need to wait until we hear any new updates.
Not much is known about the storyline of season 3 of Log Horizon. People who read the novels and manga might have a good idea of what to expect in season 3 I if it does come out, but not which plot will and will not be included. Hopefully, a new season does come out, and we can all enjoy it. But right now, we need to sit back, relax, and keep our fingers crossed.
