In a new Q&A series, The Echo reporters ask Student Government Association candidates about their Spring 2016 campaigns. Elections will take place April 6-7 on Org Sync.
Q: Who are you and what are you running for?
My name is Madi Guthrie and I am running for Sophomore Class Vice President.
Q: Why did you decide to run for SGA?
I would like to run for a position on Student Government because I want to participate in advocating the success and fulfillment of UCA’s students. I am interested in student concerns on UCA’s campus and, as a member, want to do all that I can to provide input on how to go about solving these issues. Beyond having a general interest in the structure of government, I am running because I want to step out of my comfort zone more, and have my voice heard by taking on a leadership position.
Q: Why should UCA students elect you?
I believe UCA students should elect me because I am eager. When I am passionate about something, I will get to work on it without hesitation, and I tend to always keep a positive attitude when working on projects. Beyond this, I truly hope to reach out to students at UCA, and with this do all that I can to ensure that our campus is fulfilling its potential as a community. I plan to use this opportunity to make a genuine difference on UCA’s campus by actualizing any measures that students wish for at this university.
Q: Have you been in a leadership position before?
Prior to this opportunity, I have not held any major leadership roles. I plan on (hopefully) utilizing this as my first one, which is exciting for me!
Q: What’s something unusual about you?
Something unusual about me? I can say all 50 states in alphabetical order in under twenty seconds!
