SGA Election: Drew Himstedt

In a new Q&A series, The Echo reporters ask Student Government Association candidates about their Spring 2016 campaigns. Elections will take place April 6-7 on Org Sync.

Q: Who are you and what are you running for?

My name is Drew Himstedt, and I am running for Sophomore Class Vice President.

Q: Why did you decide to run for SGA?

One reason that I decided to run for Sophomore Class Vice President was the strong encouragement I have received from my fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. My fraternity has encouraged me to pursue leadership opportunities outside of the organization, and I believe that SGA has a large role in student life and would be a great organization for me to serve my fellow students.

Q: Why should UCA students elect you?

Since I have been at UCA, I have met many different people with many different ideas. Though an idea or proposal may not be beneficial to me, I believe in serving others before myself.

Q: Have you been in a leadership position before?

In high school, I was an officer for my school’s volunteer organization, REACH (Reaching Everyone At Catholic High). A couple of my responsibilities included organizing events and fundraisers with local charities in the central Arkansas area as well as collecting donations for charity. It was truly a fulfilling experience to work with local charities.

Q: What’s something unusual about you?

Though I write right-handed, I throw with my left hand.
