The Echo Chamber: Fear of Fall

All my social media newsfeed is filled with the excitement people are getting for the beginning of fall.

I am not sure if I agree with this excitement or not.

This time of the year is a confusing time of the year. It is easy to see why people are excited for the fall. The weather is cooling down, Halloween is approaching and we a get a nice little Fall Break, even though professors aren’t aware we have one and still load students up with assignments.

However, it is always the most stressful time of the year for me. Fall reminds me how the year is almost over and how I didn’t come close to reaching many of my New Year’s resolutions I set.

Fall reminds me of how fast time is going and how I’m about to close another year in my life. I always get anxious when I write the date and see we are in the tenth month of the year and only have two left.

I get anxiety and realize I am getting closer to adulthood and still don’t have a clue of what I am doing or what I will do.

On top of all this stress, there is still school. This time of the school year, I just want to rewind back to welcome week and the summer time.

Midterms and midterm papers flood my to do list.

This part of the school year is tough because it is flu season. No matter how hard I try, I always end up getting the flu. I hate going to class sick. I feel like it is a lose lose situation for everyone. If I don’t go to class then I feel guilty and know I will fall behind on my assignments.

On the other hand, I feel like a jerk for going to class sick and risking spreading the flu to other people. I think this is the year I will finally get over my fear of needles and get my flu shot. I feel ridiculous looking back and knowing I could have dodged that dilemma just by getting a shot that last for a few seconds. As scary as a needle is, it still outweighs going to class sick and risk getting others sick.

Fall does have its positives. One of my favorite things about fall is “hoodie weather”. Wearing a hoodie everyday is less stressful than picking out a different shirt each day.

My closet is built for the fall. I have so many fall clothes and outfits that I like wearing better than my summer clothes. My closet has colorful scarves, cardigans, beanies, and long sleeve shirts that have sat in my closet all summer long.

All summer long I see those clothes and just wait for the fall and winter so I can finally wear them once again.
