Nonstudent becomes nervous, arrested for possession

Nonstudent Steve Simpkins, 38, was arrested with felony and misdemeanor charges for possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia at 7:49 p.m. on April 4.
Simpkins ran a red light on Dave Ward Drive and when he was stopped, police officials smelled marijuana coming from Simpkins.
His eyes were red, watery and glassy. Simpkins said he had been drinking hours prior to his arrest and he had an order of protection against him from the registered owner of the vehicle he was driving.
Simpkins said he took two hits off a joint and then ate the rest when he realized he was being pulled over.
UCAPD found a rolling machine and a prescription bottle of Hydrocodone to his name.
Simpkins then pulled a Kroger bag from the back of his truck which contained a Ziploc bag with a marijuana grinder, rolling papers, and one-half ounce of marijuana.
Simpkins was sweating excessively and told police that he was nervous because he had been arrested previously with one-quarter pound of marijuana.
Police later found another bag with a small amount of methamphetamine, a yellow lighter, and a glass meth pipe rolled up in a white cloth.
Other items found in the truck included: a green blow-torch, an 18 pack of Bush Light beer, a small pocketknife, a red dirt bike, a garden hose, electric air compressor, legal paperwork and a cooler with unopened beer cans.
Simpkins said he paid $25 for the meth and that he was having family and psychological problems. He also said that he used marijuana and meth to deal with the problems.
He was charged with felony possession of controlled substances, misdemeanor possession of controlled substances and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Student cited for alcohol, drugs

Student Derek Livingston, 18, was issued a judicial board citation for drug and alcohol violations at 9:03 p.m. on April 5 when police officials were informed he had a marijuana grinder in Bernard Hall.
Livingston also handed UCAPD a small pipe, a bottle of UV vodka and a bottle of Smirnoff vodka.
The pipe contained a small amount of marijuana.
The alcohol and marijuana were destroyed in the men’s bathroom of the second floor.

Livingston received a citation for drug and alcohol violations.

Intoxicated nonstudent receives drunk driving charges

Nonstudent Asif Patel, 23, was charged with driving while intoxicated at 3:30 a.m. on April 7.
Patel drove left to center on Bruce Street and he smelled of strong intoxicants.
He had bloodshot eyes and looked sleepy.
Patel said he had five drinks over several hours. He failed two sobriety tests and blew a 0.14 on the breathalyzer test. Patel said he was returning from his boss’s house.
He was charged with a DWI and driving left to center.

Careless, drunk driver cited
