Male student found dead in Hughes Hall
An 18-year-old male student was found dead in a Hughes Hall residential restroom at about 8 a.m. today.
UCAPD, emergency responders and the Conway Fire Department responded immediately to a report that the individual was found unconscious in the restroom, UCAPD Project Manager Arch Jones said.
“At this time there is no suspicion of foul play,” Jones said.
President Tom Courtway said the university mourns for the deceased’s family.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to the family,” Courtway said. “We need to remember them in our thoughts and prayers.
UCAPD and the Faulkner County Coroner’s office have requested a medical examination on the student to determine cause of death.
Jones said no other information regarding the incident is available at this time.
Cornell Maltbia, True Holiness Saints Center pastor, and Student Health Clinic counselors will visit with Hughes Hall residents at 6 p.m. tonight.

Update (2:39 p.m.): Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore confirmed freshman Jaykwantay Girley of Greenbrier as the student. Girley’s family has been notified of his death. Moore said a state autopsy has been ordered.
Update (7:18 p.m.): Girley was a full-time student who enrolled in fall 2013.
A candlelight vigil in his memory will be at 8 p.m. tomorrow night at the amphitheater.
