Focus campus ministries led students in a Jesus walk around the campus to display the true meaning of Easter on during x-period Thursday.
The walk, which started at the Student Center Courtyard, went down Bruce St. and Donaghey Ave. and ended at the Harding Plaza Fountain, where the group of students sang hymns and prayed.
Senior Kendall Baldwin said the walk was the fourth event in the ministry’s “Jesus Week.”
“Today is our Jesus Walk. Basically, what we’re doing is walking around being a visiual to the campus and lifting up the name of Jesus,” he said.
He said the point of the walk was to display to the campus the true meaning of Easter and to “get student’s minds on Christ.”
Baldwin said it takes a lot of time and effort to plan for Jesus Week.
He said the ministry started planning for this year’s Jesus Walk immediately following last year’s event.
“It takes a few months to plan budget, play for the events, do paperwork etc.,” he said.
He said overall he thinks the walk went well and stayed on schedule.
Sophomore Katie Parish, one of about 10 that participated in the walk, said she took away how important it is to just be willing to walk around campus unashamed of your faith.
“My favorite part was worship, because that’s what I feel called to do,” she said.
The first event took place on Monday, April 2 inside the Student Center.
Baldwin said the ministry was taking prayer requests for anybody who wanted to submit one.
“We had students write on a paper flower what they would like prayer for and we posted it on a wall and prayed throughout the week,” he said.
He said they received 50 to 60 prayer requests.
Baldwin said, “Praise on the Yard,” was their Tuesday event.
“We had Christian music in front of the cafeteria and we handed out scriptures,” he said.
He said the entertainment gave students something to listen to. He said he received some comments from people who said they liked the music.
The ministry’s event for Wednesday, April 4 had them witnessing to people in front of the cafeteria.
“We had witnessing in the yard in front of the cafeteria. Students came and played trivia games and we gave out prizes,” he said.
He said this gave them a way to talk to students about “the real reason for Easter.”
Baldwin said overall his favorite part of Jesus Week were the activities they had on Tuesday, April 3.
“Of course I like the whole week, but that’s the day I look forward to the most,” he said.
Baldwin said Focus campus ministry started in 2004.
“Basically what we’re all about it promoting Jesus on the campus and encouraging people to develop a relationship with God,” he said.
He said the group meets for bible study from 6:30-7:30 p.m. every Thursday in Torreyson Library 202.
