Sophomore Josh Lyon, sponsored by Delta Zeta, won the third annual Dude Looks Like a Lady pageant held Oct. 3 in Ida Waldran Auditorium.
Lyon, a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, competed as “Marilyn Manroe.”
Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority sponsored the pageant. There were three rounds: letter round, talent and formal wear.
During the letter round, contestants wore the Greek letters of the organization that sponsored them.
During talent they performed lip syncs and comedy skits and during the formal wear round they wore women’s formal gowns, answered a random question they selected from a bowl and were escorted by men of their choice.
Lyon performed a lip sync to “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” during talent round, where he had a wardrobe malfunction and his halter dress came untied at the neck.
“I did theater in high school so this was just like doing theater stuff again. It’s old routine for me,” Lyon said.
Lyon also selected a question that tied in with his lip sync routine. He was asked his favorite accessory to which he replied, “We all know diamonds are a girls best friend. You can wear them on your toes, neck, arms and wrist. Ladies, don’t settle for a man.”
Junior Reed Madden was first runner-up.
Madden is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was sponsored by Alpha Sigma Tau sorority.
For talent round, Madden performed a lyrical dance to “My Heart Will Go On” with his fraternity brother senior Kendall Myers.
Junior BJ Harrison won the People’s Choice award. He is a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and was sponsored by Sigma Kappa sorority.
For talent round, Harrison competed in a break dance competition with three Sigma Kappa members.
“My favorite part of the competition was the dance in the second round because it was an adrenaline rush,” Harrison said.
The other contestants included: Pi Kappa Alpha member senior William Jones IV sponsored by the PIKE Diamonds, Kappa Sigma member junior Cord Crow sponsored by Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, Phi Sigma Kappa sponsored member junior Thomas Bedward, Phi Lambda Chi sponsored member sophomore Connor Lawson, and Phi Sigma Kappa member Jared Santiago sponsored by Sigma Sigma Sigma.
“As awkward as it seems, it’s not that bad up there with seven other guys. It actually turns into a lot of fun,” Lyon said.
During the breaks between rounds, prizes were given out. During the first break, there was a dance competition where two members from each organization competed in a dance competition on stage.
The representatives from Alpha Sigma Tau won the competition by audience applause.
Judges for the event included Director of Housing and BearCard Stephanie McBrayer, Assistant Professor of Spanish Travis Sorenson and Lecturer of Journalism David Keith.
“It was a lot of fun and well organized,” Keith said. “All the contestants had their moments and it was very difficult to judge a bunch of men dressed as women. Although I’m pretty confident the wardrobe malfunction played no factor in the judges decision.”
